Technology Innovation Day

This week saw our Bloom 4 and 5 classes take part in a Technology Innovation Day designed by Mr Marc. The day consisted of five different workshops:

  • Podcasting
  • Movie Making
  • Photography
  • iPad Art
  • Coding

Our students were hugely positive about their workshop experiences.

  This Saturday, the Humanitree Robotics team travelled to the Tecnológico de Monterrey for the First Lego League competition. Over the first two terms, the Humanitree Robotics club along with Mr Marc and Mr Daniel have been meeting every Wednesday after school to work on their submission for the competition. This year's 'Masterpiece' theme focused on the student's interpretation of what art  means to them. Across two different teams, the 13 Humanitree students created some enormously creative and innovative designs using the Lego Spike Essential kits. Inspired by their own hobbies and interests, the student's builds included theme parks, museums, football stadiums, music stages and more. Using the Lego Spike Essential app, the students showcased their coding skills, coding the various mechanical parts to move, speak and light up in various different ways. Spotlight on Bloom 5

   As part of their project on the Human Body, Bloom 5 have been learning about the body systems and what makes a healthy body. Armed with this new information, they split up into groups to design and create something that would promote healthy living. Recognising a direct correlation between positive mental health in children and having good friends; one of the Bloom 5 groups came up with the idea of creating an app to help young people connect. 'Friend Finder' looked to match up different young people based on their hobbies and interests in order to allow students to find more friends. Working closely with Mr Marc, the group used Apple's 'Swift Playgrounds' app, designed for early application development. Using the app gave the students a first look at purposeful coding and the incredible amount of problem solving skills involved this kind of creation.
